Hibiscus at Home: A Love Letter to You

Your home should be your sanctuary. Somewhere to retreat to on the days the world’s been a lot, to feel entirely at peace, and to receive a loving reminder of who you are. It should be a place where you can just be, feel restored, and feel enveloped in love - a safe space. If there’s one thing in my life that has always tasted like that feeling of finally getting home, it’s hibiscus. Dried petals steeped until they turn the deep red of a ripe pomegranate: tart, sweet, indulgent, and completely comforting. Liquid rubies. The closest feeling to the essence of home, served to you in a tall glass.
I’ve found it in many places during my travels, each time under another name: zobo (as we call it in my ancestral land), agua de Jamaica, sorrel, karkade, sometimes with a swig of rum in it, sometimes with pineapple and nutmeg. Always, unmistakably hibiscus. Always, a taste of home and the histories of the cultures and places I love. That’s what I wanted this brand to embody, and it’s what it’s named after.
My Inspiration
I’ve had the immense privilege of learning about interior design from my beautiful Mum. With several decades of designing interiors and developing properties globally under her belt, she remains the boldest and most impressive person I know. She instilled in me the beauty of culture, heritage, identity, and authenticity - raising her kids to be unapologetic in everything we do. I’ve watched her find beauty in places nobody else would have thought to look, impeccably composing and curating spaces in ways that will forever astonish me. She’s always taught me that interiors should tell stories and build scenes decorated with the artifacts of our lives.
I hope that through Hibiscus at Home, I get to share a piece of that with you, designing spaces that feel authentic to who you are and capture the essence of what you know and love.
Hibiscus at Home is a home and lifestyle brand built on the belief that a home should feel like a warm embrace - somewhere you breathe a sigh of relief as you walk through the door, a space for love and laughter, somewhere restorative - beautiful medicine, if you will. So, we design interiors for private clients and developers: working with you from the first drawings to final styling. We create home decor in collaboration with expert artisans around the world. And, through Steeped, our monthly newsletter, and Zobo Radio, we share the stories, recipes and soundtrack that turn a house into a home.
